Javed Chaudhry termed the public execution of criminals as Punjabi thinking:
If a married offender is deprived of sexual ability, the punishment will not be meted out to his wife. What is the wife's fault in this? If the offending husband divorces his wife after the punishment, who will take care of his children? Javed Chaudhry
In his recent column, senior journalist Javed Chaudhry, while writing on the deprivation of sexual ability of the perpetrators of the motorway tragedy and rape, said that whenever a case of rape comes to light in the country, voices of public execution begin to be heard in the country. We are very proud to give examples of Iran and Saudi Arabia. This is pure Punjabi thinking.
We Punjabis are convinced to cut, hang and burn. We Punjabis not only punish the culprit but we also punish his family. The daughters of the murderer are executed. Women are stripped naked and taken to the bazaar. Punjab police always spread the word to the families and communities of thieves, adulterers and murderers.
You see, after the motorway tragedy, the Prime Minister also said that the perpetrators of rape should be deprived of their sexual ability.
But the question is that if the culprit is married then the punishment will not be given to him but to his wife. Who will take care of them. Will they not become dacoits tomorrow. Javed Chaudhry further writes that when a common man sees public execution, what effect will it have on his mind.
Did you think so Even a hundred years ago, there were public executions in the world, but then man learned from history that this is horror and barbarism and the state should never be savage. Saudi Arabia and Iran are two countries where public executions are carried out and are being reconsidered.
If the world could stop crime by public executions, it would have stopped in Iran and Saudi Arabia. In the 20 crime-free countries of the world, no one is hanged or cut, but there has been no incident like motorway for 20 years. Because in these countries punishment is not taken into consideration but crimes are controlled. We want to ruin the country further through our Punjabi thinking. You should of course give death penalty to the culprits of the motorway tragedy but hang them in public. Don't get sick. Watching a person die is the hardest thing in the world.
