The government of Pakistan will buy the mansions of these Bollywood stars, know why?
The family mansions of Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar and the late Raj Kapoor will be bought by the government in Pakistan. Both mansions have been declared national heritage.
Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa state government has decided to buy the ancestral homes of famous Bollywood actors Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar, which are dilapidated and on the verge of collapsing, in a bid to preserve historic buildings. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Archaeological Department has decided to provide funds for the purchase of the two buildings, which have been declared national heritage. Both buildings are located in the city of Peshawar. (Photo credit: Twitter).
Dr Abdul Samad Khan, head of the Archaeological Department, said an official letter had been sent to the Joint Commissioner of Peshawar to fix the price of the two historic buildings, where two stars of Indian cinema were born and raised before partition. Raj Kapoor's ancestral home is known as Kapoor Haveli which is located in Qissa Khawani Bazaar. It was built by Raj Kapoor's grandfather between 1918 and 1922. (Photo credit: Twitter).
Actor Dilip Kumar's nearly 100-year-old ancestral home is also in the area. The house is dilapidated and in 2014 the then Nawaz Sharif government declared it a national heritage site. (Photo credit: Twitter).
However, Ali Qadir, owner of Kapoor Haveli, said he did not want to demolish the building. Ali claimed that he had contacted the Archaeological Department officials several times to protect the historic building, which is a national pride. The owner of the building has demanded Rs 200 crore to sell it to the government.
