All types of cooking oil are high in fat and calories, but their chemical constituents and effects on us can vary. Cooking oil is an essential ingredient in any kitchen but there are conflicting claims as to which of these oils is best for our health.


There are different types of oils available on the shelves of any shop, from coconut to olive, vegetable, canola, zucchini seeds, pear oil. But how do we decide which oil to use and which to avoid?


Cooking oils used for cooking are usually named after the seeds, fruits, plants or grains from which they are extracted or prepared. They are then graded based on the fat content they contain.


In recent years, coconut oil, which is 90% saturated fat, has become more widely used as a dietary supplement. Coconut oil is highly praised as the best nutritional oil and it is also less likely to be stored as fat in the human body.


Coconut oil is also said to be more likely to be used as energy in the human body, but a Harvard University epidemiologist described it as a "pure poison."
